Ranbir makes his singing debut with Anjaana Anjaani

Wednesday, 23 December 2009

Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a dual role as a singer and actor in Sajid Nadiadwala's Anjaana Anjaani. The actor has sung a song for a romantic sequence in the film.
Music director duo Vishal-Shekhar are also trying to persuade his co-star Priyanka Chopra to lend her voice for one of the songs in the film.

Blowing them away
A source reveals, "Ranbir blew everyone away when he got behinAdd Imaged the mike. He was fun in the studio and everyone kept telling him how good he sounded on the song. It isn't a full-fledged song but just a sequence in the film. This is the first time he's singing a song in a film so he was a bit nervous. But since he's friendly with Vishal Shekhar he had a good time recording it."

Dadlani confirms, "Yes Ranbir has sung for a sequence in the film. He is going to blow away a lot of people when they hear him." Adding that he's been persuading Priyanka as well the composer adds, "Shekhar and I have been talking to PC about singing for us got a long time. It will happen when it happens. We'll see."

Ranbir now joins the ranks of Neil Nitin Mukesh, Akshay Kumar, Amitah Bachchan and others who have lent their voice for a song in their films.

Ranbir drops Deepika in his car

Tuesday, 22 December 2009
[ranbir-deepika1.jpg]
This has to be the patch up of the season, just two months after their high profile break up Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone seems to be on a comeback trail. It was reported earlier that the former couple were spotted talking to each other in a recent event.

The two didn't look embarrassed in each others company and shared the same dinner table during the event. What's more Deepika and Ranbir might have arrived at the event individually but they left in the same car. Onlookers were surprised to see Deepika get into Ranbir's car and zoom away.

The two seemed to be eager to sort out their difference and get back with their relationship. Hope Deepika and Ranbir sort out their bitter differences by the end of the year and have a happy new year ahead of them.

Ranbir-Deppika spotted together for first time after split

Sunday, 20 December 2009

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were spotted together on Saturday night. The former flames stepped out of a five-star hotel at Worli and took off in a waiting car.

This is the first occasion the OSO girl and the star son have been seen together after their split in October.
The couple was at a greet-and-meet bash hosted by the hotel for their top guys. The event was organised by Bhavana Pandey and had several B-Town folk in attendance. Among the guests were Gauri Khan, Karan Johar and Kaajal Anand.

Says a source, "Ranbir and Deepika arrived separately for the event. They were cordial at the bash. It was the first time they were spotted together after they parted ways."

Adds the source, "They took everyone by surprise when they left the venue together." Onlookers were surprised to see both zoom off in Ranbir's car. Are they trying to work it out? Or did bumping into each other serve as an opportunity to sort out differences? Or did they perhaps give each other a earful about what went wrong?

Both Ranbir and Deepika remained unavailable for comment.

A precedent?
After their break-up, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra -- shooting for different films -- were put up at the same hotel in Bangkok. They made up soon after.

Why Ranbir missed a chance to work with dad

Ranbir Kapoor, who is expected to direct Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan in his directorial debut late next year, missed an opportunity to team up with his dad in the recently released "Rocket Singh - The Salesman of The Year" because producer Aditya Chopra thought it wasn't a good idea.

"The entire Yash Raj team was all for casting Rishi Kapoor as Ranbir's boss. Only Adi (Aditya Chopra) thought the audiences would not accept Rishi Kapoor as a negative boss to his own son. We had to relent," said a source.

Rishi confirms that he was indeed considered for Ranbir's boss' part in the film.

"I'm told all at Yash Raj wanted me to play the role. They finally decided otherwise. I think they felt the baap-beta jodi wouldn't be acceptable as boss-employee," Rishi said.

However, Rishi is all praise for Manish Choudhary who replaces him in the film. "Manish is the discovery of the year."

Talking about his son's performance in the film, Rishi said: "Ranbir has lived the character Rocket Singh, though I feel there should've been more Punjabiyat in his speech."

Ranbir, who has been waiting with bated breath to get his father's approval, is thrilled to get a thumbs-up from his dad.

"Dad is my greatest critic. He's such a brilliant actor, I can never match him. When he said he liked my performance in 'Rocket Singh', I finally felt I had given a decent performance," said Ranbir.

Ranbir-Priyanka kiss each other

Thursday, 17 December 2009
Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have shot their first kissing scene together. They did it for Sajid Nadiadwala's Anjaana Anjaani. The smooching scene was shot during their recent Bangkok schedule. Directed by Siddharth Anand, it's the first pairing of the two actors.

A close hand reveals, "There was an internal joke with the unit that Siddharth would definitely have a kiss written into the script as he made Ranbir kiss three gals in their film together -- Bachna Ae Haseeno, so it was kind of a given."

The close hand further added, "Despite not knowing each other, Ranbir and PC's on-screen chemistry is amazing. They'd met and interacted at partied before but never sat down and really talked. So it was almost like their first meeting on the set. They are both very professional and did lot of readings for their romantic scenes. Also they hung out and spent some time getting to know each other before the shoot began."

It is believed that there might me one more kissing scene in the film which will be shot during their New York schedule later this month. "The script demands they get flirty and there's a scene that will shot at Times Square at New Year's Eve which has them getting cosy," added the close hand.

American critics give flattering reviews to 'Rocket Singh'

Wednesday, 16 December 2009
[rocketsin.jpg]
Bollywood's latest offering "Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year" is going great guns in the US with its review currently the number one most read movie story on the New York Times site.

The Times review, beating stories on the Golden Globe nominations and reviews of all US films, calls "Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year," with Ranbir Kapoor " a smart, focused Bollywood movie".

Shimit Amin, "who directed the delightful 'Chak De! India', about a girls' hockey team, dispenses with Bollywood's normal tangle of subplots and mashup of genres", it says. "There's music, but no big production numbers. Even romance is back-burnered. Instead, Mr. Amin sticks to the story at hand."

"Kapoor, a heartthrob who has quickly become a star playing cads, turns in a skilfully understated performance," says the review. "His Harpreet is an old-school hero: solid, righteous, compassionate. You can't help cheering for him."

In an equally flattering review, Film Journal International says: "David-and-Goliath workplace drama from India goes unexpected places, and hits satisfying chords."

The posters for the Bollywood import " promise a workplace satire or a light-hearted employee caper" it says. "Instead we get a sharply observed drama of an honest man trying to survive in the usual business world."

"In the exploding modern India, it's a very American story: How do you succeed in business without really trying to compromise your ethics?"

"Not all Bollywood movies are big, colourful musicals, of course, and this one offers only a couple of plot montages set against songs, it says, "But with uniformly excellent performances-particularly by (Naveen) Kaushik and (Shantanoo) Bhagyaraj as the conflicted and not-so-conflicted antagonists, respectively."

In addition, there is "a no-nonsense pace and storytelling sense by director Shimit Amin, and a truly universal and credible office mise-en-scene, 'Rocket Singh' is instantly accessible to any stateside audience," the Journal adds.

Harpreet Singh, the protagonist, "may be a prisoner of the system, but he can proudly say, 'I am not a number. I am a free market'," it says.

Ranbir Kapoor Torn between two Actresses

Thursday, 10 December 2009

Ranbir Kapoor may be playing a salesman in his latest movie, but on the sets of the movie, he was seen playing a diplomat. Apparently, both his leading ladies Shazahn Padamsee and Gauhar Khan just couldn’t see eye-to-eye. According to sources, the cold vibes they shared could be felt by everyone around them, including Ranbir.

But the ever so diplomatic star took the safe path by listening to the com plaints of both the ladies. “He would listen with one ear and let it out from the other,” the source added. So what caused these cold vibes? Well, it was the classic case of a misconception gone horribly wrong. Apparently, Shazahn felt Gauhar was overpowering her in the film’s publicity.

And though the two were cordial to each other when the filming began, by the end of it they couldn’t even stand the sight of each other. “In fact, they didn’t even acknowledge each other at a recent trial screening of the film,” the source said.

I am Half Sikh in Real life too: Ranbir Kapoor

Tuesday, 8 December 2009
Ranbir Kapoor and on screen romance almost go hand in hand but his much awaited "Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year" has no love angle. He says the film's protagonist is completely in love with sales.

"It is not a love story. The character Rocket Singh is in love with sales. It's a very simple movie, " Ranbir told.

This year Ranbir was seen with Konkona Sen Sharma in hit movie "Wake Up Sid" and later teamed up with Katrina Kaif in romantic comedy "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani", winning the hearts of audiences.

And now comes "Rocket Singh" in which he plays Harpreet Singh Bedi, who has just graduated with embarrassing marks. But that doesn't stop him from dreaming about an exciting career. Releasing Friday, the film has been made under the Yash Raj Films' banner.

This is the first film in which Ranbir's physical appearance has been changed for a role. He looks a typical Sikh youth complete with a turban and beard. "It was very important to feel the character first, later you automatically start living him, " Ranbir said.

He said that director Shimit Amin and screenwriter Jaideep Sahni had held different workshops for the cast and the crew before starting the shoot.

"Shimit wanted to make the character as real as possible so that it doesn't look as if an actor is trying to be a sardar. Shimit and Jaideep held workshops for 30 days, not just with me but the entire cast and crew, " the actor said.

But despite being a Punjabi, Ranbir's character speaks fluent Hindi. "He is Mumbai-based fourth generation sardar, so he has no influence of a Punjabi accent in his diction, " Ranbir explained.

In real life too, Ranbir is half Sikh as his maternal grandparents were Sikh.

"My maternal grandmother was extremely thrilled that I was playing a Sardar, " said Ranbir.

"I am half sikh though I didn't understand the religion like I do after doing this film. I respect the sacrifices they made and the discipline they have in their religion. It's not that easy to keep a beard and tie pagdi (turban) in warm countries. I really respect them because they do it for their religion and not for their comfort, " he said.

Asked what Rocket Singh sells, he said: It's an integral part of the film and we want to guard it till the film releases."

Ranbir hopes that "Rocket Singh...", which is his last release of the year, repeats the success stories of his previous releases and ends the year on a happy note.

"Some films work, some don't. 'Wake Up Sid' worked in a capacity it was meant to work. 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' was a big grosser. As an actor I would like every film of mine to do well. It feels great, as the hard work you put in this whole year has been paid off. With 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year', I hope it does better than better, " said Ranbir.

Asked if this back-to-back success was adding to the pressure on him, he said: "There is no pressure at all. I am an actor, I don't believe in genes or living in what my great grandfather or my parents have achieved. Here I am as an individual and that's how audiences are going to perceive me, not as someone's son or grandson."

"If my films are doing well, I would like to take some credit for it, " he added.

The title song of "Chak De! India", Shimit Amin's last film, had become a sports anthem.

"I hope 'Pocket main Rocket' becomes a salesman's anthem, " Ranbir said.

Ranbir Kapoor has another change of heart

Wednesday, 25 November 2009

Having delivered two of the 2009’s few hits, Ranbir Kapoor is now focused more on his career, while redefining relationships in his personal life.

First, he broke up with girlfriend Deepika Padukone, whose possessiveness is said to have been stifling Ranbir’s ambition to become the biggest star.

Now, after giving very friendly vibes with Imran Khan right through this year following them co-hosting Filmfare Awards in February (pictured above), he’s suddenly had a change of heart about their closeness.

“Imran and I are friends but not the best of friends. Where is the time for friendship? I don’t even have time for my parents,” he has said.

Ranbir has also ruled out the possibility of him and Imran working together, even though he had been open to the idea till quite recently.

“We have been offered a whole lot of stuff but the offers never went beyond the preliminary stage. I don’t think Imran and I will be working together in any capacity in the near future,” he has told a daily.

“By God’s grace, I am in a position to do solo-hero films with terrific actresses and directors for the best banners. I am a selfish actor. I would rather have a film to myself than share it with another actor.”

Did we hear ‘selfish’?

Ranbir is getting closer to Shazahn now?

Tuesday, 17 November 2009

It’s the season of break ups it seems. First there were reports of Shahid Kapoor breaking off with Priyanka Chopra and now there are reports coming in of Ranbir Kapoor breaking up with his actress girlfriend Deepika Padukone. However, it is learnt from our reliable sources that he is finding solace in another close friendship with a co-starlet.

Insiders claim the reason for Ranbir –Deepika’s love story allegedly going kaput was being attributed to Ranbir’s mother Neetu Singh and his friendship with co-star Katrina Kaif, we hear that there is one more girl in the picture now and it is Ranbir’s film Rocket Singh’s co-star -Shazahn Padamsee.

Our sources reveal, “The two met on the sets of the film and hit it off instantly. They are pretty close now and Deepika is not too happy. Ranbir and Shazahn enjoy each other’s company and they keep in touch constantly. They also make it a point to meet up whenever they are free. There’s already so much speculation about the rift between Deepika and Ranbir and this new friendship has only made things worse.”

Both Ranbir and Shazahn were unavailable for their comments.

Imran Khan takes a cue from Ranbir

Monday, 9 November 2009
After the heartbreaking failure of Kidnap and Luck – it was as if somebody had kidnapped his luck – Imran Khan has finally decided to take charge of his career. According to sources, instead of ‘different’ films, Imran will now stick to commercial films. The inspiration for this new strategy is good friend-cum-profession rival Ranbir Kapoor.

Imran, we hear, wants to do romantic comedies with popular heroines and famous banners. He recently turned down Dibakar Banerjee’s Abhay Deol- starrer since that was experimental cinema.Kunal Kohli also offered him a film but since the director was a newbie – Danish Khan – Imran refused.

He is currently is shooting for Karan Johar’s I Hate Love Stories with Sonam Kapoor. The boy wants it to release before his experimental venture Delhi Belly produced by uncle Aamir Khan.

Ranbir's new girls fight it out

Who is Ranbir Kapoor's latest leading lady? (Apart from Katrina Kaif, that is... ) Juicy Mausi is confused! Well, on the one hand there's this young debutant Shazahn Padamsee who claims to be great friend of the Kapoor boy and is cast opposite him in YRF's next Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year. And on the other hand, there's model turned actress Gauhar Khan who's finally bagged a big role for herself who claims it's her the audience will remember after watching Rocket Singh...

Just the other day, at the wrap up party of the film, the air around the two ladies was sub-zero. Made me want to go back and get my mink coat. (Oh my! Is it illegal these days?)

However, after catching a terrible cold post that, Juicy Mausi just couldn't resist doing a little snoopin' around. And guess what all people said...

A little birdie who kept hovering around the unit during the making of the film told me that Shazahn was more of show off than anything else. Apparently she has been doing all it takes to publicise herself. She had started talking about her acting and dancing classes and all of that when she had only shot for four days. She even went around saying that she had nothing to do with Gauhar. She hasn't shot with Gauhar (they have, actually, ONCE). And that she has only shot with Ranbir who happens to be a great friend.

Also, Shazahn apparently was heard saying that though she has only shot for four days as opposed to the four months of Gauhar, it is the quality of work and the character that defines who the female lead in the film is.

Not too tactful, huh? Me thinks these young ones have to grow up so much! I mean, just see the way Gauhar handled the entire situation. My friend, the little birdie, went to ask her about all that was going on. The Khan girl said that she definitely has not interacted with Padamsee on a 'social' level. (How about anti-social level? One wonders...)

And about who's playing the lead, Gauhar was heard saying that though Shazahn is cast opposite Ranbir, she did not think she could be called the 'lead'. In fact the 'lead' should be the one who leaves an impression on the audience. And well, she very diplomatically left it to the audience to decide.

WOW. Wonder what Ranbir boy was doing between the two women. Probably enjoying the fireworks, eh?

The Truth behind the Ranbir-Deepika split

Tuesday, 3 November 2009
In case you were still wondering about the Ranbir-Deepika affair status, lemme tell you darlings, it's OVER. Well, it's true. Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are NOT together anymore. And hey, it's not poor li'l Katrina's fault either.

Surprised? Well, let Juicy Mausi tell you what's been going on.

Well, many may say Katrina Kaif was the catalyst to the already topsy-turvy Ranbir-Deepika love story and finally widened the gap between the two. But c'mon children, this IS after all the film industry. People have to come close only if to promote their films and that kind of stuff.

It's not even mommy Neetu Kapoor's unhealthy dislike for the actress that has helped push the lovers apart. This Oedipus thing has existed from god knows when. That does not mean people don't have relationships, now does it?

Allow ME to tell you the real reason. Since my grapevine is still fresh and healthy, I hear that Ranbir boy is too charming for Deepika's comfort. Now Deepika had to realise her boyfriend's 'over-friendly' attitude with women sooner or later. And how could she handle it after having put so much into the relationship. I mean, the girl had even stopped talking to her friends Yuvraj Singh and Nihar Pandya, for crying out loud!

Of course you know about the time when Deepika had to rush over to Goa to check on her boyfriend. One of her friends from the sets of Ranbir's friend had informed her about the growing closeness between him and the lady Katrina. The same story repeated on the sets of Rajneeti in Bhopal. This time around Deepika packed her bags and went to stay with her man for two weeks straight. Ranbir, needless to say, felt 'suffocated'. And needed his 'space'.

Don't we all know what those words mean? Last time my college president (I was dating him at that time) asked me for space, I made sure he got some...in the hospital.

Moving on... You know when I really noticed the rift between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone? It was at a B'wood birthday party. The supposed lovers were sitting at two absolute ends of the room.

Ha ha, and guess what a little birdie told me... apparently the Ranbir-Deepika relationship was too formal. He always called her 'the girlfriend' but the 'passion' was missing. Now, THAT I can so believe.

Don't compare Salman with Ranbir: Katrina

Monday, 26 October 2009
Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif thinks comedy is a serious genre for actors to attempt. CNN-IBN caught up with the actress who stars with Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani a romantic comedy and got her talking about co-star Ranbir, comedy and much more.

Ranbir wears lingerie!

Friday, 23 October 2009

We too rubbed our eyes in disbelieve when we first saw this image of Ranbir Kapoor from the upcoming rom-com Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, co-starring Katrina Kaif.

The Kapoor lad who dared to drop the towel and bare his butt in his very first film now cross-dresses in a pink lingerie for a sequence in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s film.

However, we must add that two tennis balls would have made Ranbir’s lingerie act more eye-popping.

In case you didn’t know, Ranbir sports a number of other looks in the film - a halwai with a gamchha tied on his forehead; a Charlie Chaplin look; a bespectacled geek, a pathan with a beard and turban; a dancer with an Elvis hair-do; a regular dude with stubble; also a look inspired from his grandpa Raj Kapoor.

But his lingerie look is the most ghazab.

After Priyanka Now Ranbir wears 8 different looks in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani

Thursday, 22 October 2009
Remember the nine different looks Sanjeev Kumar donned for “Naya Din Nayi Raat”?. Our current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is set to do something similar in “Ajab Prem KI Ghazab Kahani”.

A unit source revealed, "Ranbir has donned eight different looks in the film. He impersonates as the Pathanwala, Halwaiwala, a corporate officer etc. He has even donned the Charlie Chaplin look in the film."

Shyamli has styled Ranbir's costume and look in “Ajab Prem KI Ghazab Kahani”.

"When Shyamli met director Rajkumar Santoshi, he clearly told her that he wanted her to make Ranbir's character appear very real. He did not want anything that would look over the top on screen. Shyamli worked hard on Ranbir's eight different looks. In fact, it has turned out to be exceptionally good on screen," said our source.

Produced by Tips Films and co-starring Katrina Kaif, “Ajab Prem KI Ghazab Kahani” is set to release on Nov 6.

Ranbir-Konkona had sex after the film: Ayan Mukerji

Sunday, 11 October 2009
Director Ayan Mukerji's debut film Wake Up Sid has clicked big time with the multiplex audience. We quiz the director about his film and whether he would have done things differently.

Did you expect the good reviews?

Honestly I didn't expect terrible reviews. I was very confident of it before starting the film. But once I finished Wake Up Sid, I just didn't have the space to figure out the reviews. So yes, I am happy but more than that I am very relieved. The relief comes out of the fact that I can make my next film.

But you weren't scared of Do Knot Disturb?

No

But what do you think clicked with the viewers?

You know I haven't watched Wake Up Sid in the theaters. I was shit scared. See Wake Up Sid has no story as such. So going by what I have heard, I think it's the honesty with which Ranbir played Sid – that worked. But personally I am just so damn tired, I haven't analysed the film.

Are you detached from the film?

Completely. I haven't allowed myself to be overly ecstatic about the success. I think everyone goes through their highs and lows and all filmmakers have their share of good and bad films. If I keep obsessing over Wake Up Sid's success, I will keep repeating my self in the future.

Would you do anything differently?

Lots of things. I wish the first half was wittier, breezier and funnier.

Did you purposely go in for a small canvas, despite Karan Johar's backing?

I think if I had gone in for a lavish approach the soul would have got lost. But nothing was deliberate. I just highlighted on a slice of life, in the way I wanted to.
