Aishwarya Rai to make her TV debut

While husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan have already forayed into tv, Bachchan bahu is also contemplating a move to the telly.Though convincing Aishwarya at this stage of her career was not an easy job, but she will be hosting a show on national television.

The format is a chat show and the logistics are being worked out.Aishwarya’s debut is a part of a ‘family’ deal. A source says, “Right from the time they signed Amitabh Bachchan for Bigg Boss, the channel had decided to have Abhishek and Aishwarya as well.”

Meanwhile it is pretty clear that the heroine will charge a bomb for her first foray into television.

If Amitabh Bachchan has shown the way, could bahurani Aishwarya Rai Bachchan be far behind? Big B pulled off the role of a 13-year-old kid suffering from progeria for his Balki directed film with a unbelievable transformation through prosthetic make-up and now Ash in her forthcoming Vipul Shah movie Action Replay is going through an equally elaborate makeover to look like an old lady for some scenes.

Apparently even Ash is being given her look by well-known Hollywood make-up artists and the process takes between 4-5 hours. While Amitabh's Auro was perfected by Christien Tinsley (The Passion of the Christ) and Dominie Till (The Lord Of The Rings trilogy), Ash is getting help from Paul Pattison who has earlier styled Mel Gibson for Braveheart and Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible.

An insider discloses, "The film is most probably about time travel and Ash will be seen playing an old lady in a portion of the movie. She had to patiently give over four hours to get the desired look -- which took many prior sittings just to be finalised. It was an everyday ordeal to first put on and then remove the make-up. Bachchan too went through a similar experience. But Ash was on time regularly for these sessions."

Confirms Vipul Shah, "Ash is playing an old lady in a portion of the film and she did have to spend around 4-6 hours everyday for the make-up, but she was extremely cooperative. It's a look people have never seen her in before -- it's our USP and a big secret."

Bhansali bends rules for Aishwarya

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be a stickler for strict schedules during filming, but he is voluntarily giving Aishwarya Rai a few days break from the shooting of Guzaarish so that she can attend the premiere of Paa that has her husband and father-in-law in lead roles.

"It's no big deal. Adjusting my schedule is the least I can do for someone who has been a dear friend for many years. But this was not done for Aishwarya. It was for Paa and Amitji. It's a very special moment for the family," Bhansali told IANS.

Releasing Friday, Paa is produced by AB Corp. The film is about a father-son-son-father relationship - while Abhishek Bachchan plays a politician, Amitabh will be seen as his 13-year-old son suffering from progeria, a disease that accelerates the ageing process.

While Aishwarya will play a perfect host at the Paa premeire Dec 3 here, Bhansali will shoot solo scenes with the film's leading man Hrithik Roshan.

"Aishwarya is not just Sanjay's leading lady. After doing three films together, they are family. Sanjay saw how stressed Aishawarya was trying to balance her tight schedules for Guzaarish with the time required to pitch in with real-life pa for Paa.

"In fact, Mr. Bachchan has been running around alone inviting the film fraternity for the premiere on December 3 since Abhishek has been shooting non-stop in Goa for Ashutosh Gowariker and Jayaji is in Delhi attending parliament," said a friend of Bhansali and Aishwarya.

"When she expressed her helplessness about not being available for Amitji to make arrangements for the premiere, Sanjay made up his mind to give her those crucial days on and before the premiere off, although it meant considerable schedule adjustment on his part," added the friend.

Aishwarya has been juggling her Guzaarish schedule with her duties as a hostess for family events to the best of her abilities. On Saturday evening she was present as an integral part of the Bachchan family with husband Abhishek, sister-in-law Shweta and the Big's B bother Ajitabh Bachchan's kids for a poetry reading on Harivansh Rai Bachchan's birth anniversary.

"She had little time to prepare her poems. But she recited Harivansh Rai Bachchan's lines like a true Bachchan," said a close friend of Aishwarya.

Katrina and AIshwarya Connected through mythology

Two of the most beautiful actresses are connected by an uncanny coincidence. The forthcoming films of both the stunners are based on the religious Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, starring Aishwarya Rai as Sita, is based on Ramayana. It has south star Vikram playing Ash’s hubby and Abhishek Bachchan playing the villain who kidnaps Ash and takes her into a forest. Govinda’s character, based on Lord Hanuman, is that of a forest guard who helps trace Ash.

Prakash Jha’s film Rajneeti, on the other hand, is based on Mahabharata. The film, a political thriller, borrows a great deal from the politics of Mahabharata. Ranbir Kapoor plays an Arjun-like character who, with the help of his mentor, takes on his rivals. Katrina too plays a politico in the movie that stars a host of actors including Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Nana Patekar.

Both ‘Raavan’ and ‘Rajneeti’ have Ash and Katrina in non-glam roles; the stunners are dressed demurely in sarees. Another coincidence is that both the films are set to release in May next year. Though it’s unlikely that the films would clash at the marquee, they would, at best, release with a gap of two weeks in between.

Who will emerge victorious in this battle of supremacy at the box office, we’ll know next year.

At 36, Aishwarya Rai has more work in her kitty than many Bollywood actresses younger to her. Not only is there no dearth of film offers, the former Miss World has to opt out of the commitments she’s made because…well…she has no time!

Amid such hectic schedules, it’s Ash’s pa Amitabh Bachchan who inspires his bahurani to stay committed and dedicated to work.

“His commitment and dedication is an example for everyone to follow,” Ash told reporters in Mumbai last night.

She was at the launch of a new product of the international watch brand she endorses.

Presently busy with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Guzaarish and also with the promotion strategy of the Bachchans’ upcoming home production Paa, Ash said she hardly gets any time to stop and think.

“We live such busy and hectic lives that we just sail through the moment,” she gushed.

Aishwarya Rai opts out of Crooked

Aishwarya Bachchan has exited Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production Crooked, leaving the duo in a fix. She was supposed to star opposite hubby Abhishek Bachchan in the film but had to drop it because of date issues.Ash was busy with Vipul Shah’s Action Replay whose dates begin to clash with Crooked. Since Action Replay is nearing its end, she had to drop Crooked, directed by Abhinay Deo.

This is not Farhan’s only film that doesn’t have an actress yet. Farhan’s production directed by sister Zoya, which stars Farhan, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol is also stuck without a female lead. They are currently looking for three new girls for the film which will start shooting in Spain from April 5.

Hrithik has adjusted his dates for Farhan, who wants to start shooting for Don 3 in September 2010, as Zoya’s film needs to be completed by then.

Bachchan bahu, Aishwarya is throwing starry tantrums these days. Apparently, the actress is giving Vipul Shah a tough time for their forthcoming flick- Action Replay.

It seems that the lady has refused to dub for the film as it has not reached her satisfactory level and she isn’t quite happy with the way the film has turned out.

However, the sources completely rebuff the rumours. According to them, the shoot got stalled because of Vipul Shah as he was busy promoting London Dreams. And now since the film has released, the filmmaker would kick off Action Replay again.
